Dyslexia Advocacy (and other special needs)

Dear Parent,

Thank you for your interest in Mary Saghafi Tutoring for advocacy support. I very much look forward to getting to know you and your child better.

My ultimate goal is to help you feel confident in your ability to make education decisions, understand your child’s unique learning profile and be able to advocate for their needs by cooperating with the school. I am happy to provide new families with a 30-minute consultation where I will summarize your concerns and provide you with some preliminary resources to direct you toward some answers.

If we choose to move forward, I will help plan a path for collaboration with the school. Future consultation may be related to research and directions for letter writing, student observation, and in some cases, informal assessments. In addition to the informal assessments and observation, it would be helpful for me to review any professional testing results and any other documents from the school such as grades, progress reports, or an IEP or 504 plan. With a full scope of information, I will provide you with a document that describes your child's learning profile. This document will be very useful to you when working with the school.

As a certified dyslexia advocate, I am well versed in best practices as well as common myths that often interfere with current teaching practices. Ultimately, my goal is to establish trust and partnership with the school to help support their professional needs and build a bridge between the home and school. Successful professional relationships are based on strong and supportive communication. I want to empower you to be able to understand the complicated education system and your rights so that you can feel confident when speaking with school representatives.

As needs present themselves, I will be happy to assist you with communication with the school. I am also happy to provide some useful resource suggestions to anyone who works with the child on academic-based skills. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your family.

Sincerely,

Mary Saghafi, M. Ed.
