Dear Parent,
Thank you for your interest in Mary Saghafi Tutoring. I very much look forward to getting to know you and your child better.
My approach to supporting families is somewhat unique compared to traditional tutoring. I want to help you (and your child) feel confident in your ability to make education decisions, understand your child’s unique learning profile, and be able to advocate for their needs by cooperating with the school.
During your first session, I will complete a few informal learning assessments in order to best understand your child’s learning needs. After the first few sessions, I will complete a full learning profile. This document will be very useful to you when working with the school. In addition to the informal assessments, it would be helpful for me to review any professional testing results and any other documents from the school such as an IEP or 504 plan.
After the learning profile document is developed we will have a 30-minute parent conference to ensure that together we are establishing realistic goals based on the child’s needs. Tutoring sessions are approximately one hour long. You and your child can expect me to come prepared with appropriate teaching materials.
In addition to using highly-effective practices, you can expect me to work with your child on self-advocacy skills. As needs present themselves, I will be happy to assist you with communication with the school. I am also happy to provide some useful resource suggestions to anyone who works with the child on academic-based skills. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your family.
